It's been a long time coming

For the last few years when we drove or took a walk by the Lake Union Cafe I would frequently make some sort of comment about how it looks like a cool place and should really be a resturaunt or bar.  This is without having been inside :)  OK, the first few comments were "hey, we should try that place, it seems like it'd be cool."  Then I realized that it was only for private parties and the comments changed slightly.

Well, I can now say that I've been in the place and that it would be a cool setting for a club.  Very 'retro' feel and nice.  How did we finally see the inside?  Kevin & Erin's wedding - very classy event with nice swing music that set the mood appropriately to match the decor...  In addition to the whole seeing two friends get married thing :), one of the coolest parts of their wedding was that they had a couple home-brew beers as a beverage selection :)  Definitely a nice personal touch to add to the event!

No sailing lessons for you

Well, while we were debating whether or not sailing lessons in December would be worthwhile (as in would we be miserable out in the rain and cause us to hate sailing), the rest of the classes for the year have been booked out.  Which, as you might guess, makes our decision a whole lot easier.  The upshot is that we have something to look forward to for next April / May timeframe and that's the way we were leaning anyway.  Now if we can just remember to call in December in order to get our spots reserved.

Taking a page out of Aaron's book from some time back, posting a bunch of the links I read about photography so that I have them somewhere for when I re-format a machine and lose my "favorites" :).

ouch. !$@$%! stupid sandals

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon I decided to return some videos by walking down to the shop rather than driving. Taking advantage of the nice weather I took a longer route home rather than coming driectly back.  Partway home I felt a stone in my flip-flop and tried to dislodge it...  A few steps later I felt the stone cutting into my foot like it was actually a piece of glass...

Stopping to remove it, I took off my flip-flop to find not a piece of glass but a yellowjacket.  And it wasn't cutting into me, it was me being stung in the bottom of my foot :(  If you've never been stung on the bottom of the foot - let me tell you it's quite annoying.

Fortunately I wasn't too far from home at this point so wasn't hobbling forever.  Though it was the weekend of the houseboat tour so I did get more than a few weird looks as I hopped home.

how premium is YOUR ice cream?

The other day I got sucked into trying out new Sheer Bliss icecream.  I'd seen it in the grocery store for the past couple months but never thought it was worth the price to try - finally I was in a mood to splurge and try something I hadn't had before, plus it was marked down :).

Just now was reading the can as I was eating some (yes, it actually comes in a tin can) and realized that Sheer Bliss is an "ultra super premium" ice cream.  Seriously.  It says so right on the can.  Anything with that many superlatives has to be fantastic, right?  Unfortunately it's only "ok".

According to this article I found, the qualifiers have nothing to do with how someone rated it but has to do with the percentage of milk fat.  My initial thoughts were wrong and apparently there's no equivalent to the Wine Spectator ratings for ice cream!  How disappointing is that?  Funnily enough in the article they talk about premium, ultra premium and super premium but not ultra super premium.  I guess the Sheer Bliss folks are currently on top and had to create a new category for themselves.

Anyway, back to the Lexus of ice creams
