Summer Concerts at Marymoor
Last night we headed out to Marymoor Park for a Tragically Hip concert as part of the Marymoor Concerts series. How was it? Well, it was a great way to spend a gorgeous evening outdoors. The weather was fantastic (as soon as the sun started dipping down :)), and it wasn't over-crowded. The beer was even suprisingly reasonably priced.
What it wasn't was a concert that was nearly as good as when we saw the Hip at the Moore Theater earlier this year. I think a lot of it was that the crowd wasn't necessarily as engaged. A lot of people, myself included, were just kind of kicking back and listening and sitting or lying in the grass. Not standing up and dancing and singing along and so on. It also seemed a bit less crowded than the Moore, which could be that the venue is bigger or just that it's more spread-out since you aren't in a row of seats packing people together. There were also probably a few folks scared off by the dire warnings about the heat, and another set of people who go to shows at Marymoor just because they can sit around. An outdoor version of going to the pub.
Would I go to another concert at Marymoor? You betcha :) I just won't expect to be blown away by a musical experience.
