out of sight, out of mind

You know the old saying, "out of sight, out of mind"?  Well, how true it is.  We didn't get much flooding where we are in Redmond, and since we live about 5 minutes away from work, haven't been disrupted by all of the recent rain and flooding much at all.  Imagine our suprise when we took Shay to the dog park this weekend and found much of it closed due to flooding of the trails and fields.

I'd thought to myself that I should head over to Snoqualmie Falls when I first heard of the flooding and finally made it out on Sunday lickety-split, barring a couple of detours due to closed roads.  I didn't get any great shots of the falls because there was so much mist coming off of it that it was hard to get anything with good definition.  It also didn't help that mist is, you know, WET and the camera and lens don't really like moisture.  Regardless, here are a couple comparisons between a stop there in Feb 2006 and this past Sunday.

I'll leave it to the reader to figure out which is this week's flood level and which is from a couple of years ago :)...  The full shot from this year shows how bad the mist was coming at you on the observatory point - that was just about the clearest shot I got from those vantage points...

This is what the observation deck looked like - I can vouch for how soaked and cold those people are getting :)
